Having just watched the latest episode of ‘His Dark Materials’ (BBC One), I was struck by the way the story portrays religion.  It seems, the writer of the famous trilogy, Philip Pullman, had a difficult experience with organised religion and decided to turn it on its head.  Unfortunately, if viewers of this very well made television series view this fantasy story as anywhere near the truth, they could end up confused, bewildered and floundering around in uncertainty.

It appears His Dark Materials refer to Dark Matter, the invisible matter surrounding stars and planets.  Dark Matter is a mystery to scientists, who think it may have something to do with gravity.
