A recent movie called ‘A Beautiful Day in the Neighbourhood’ tells the true story of Fred Rogers (played by Tom Hanks), a presenter of children’s TV shows.  Rogers, a Presbyterian minister, was unusually gentle in nature, showing great sensitivity to the problems of those he met.  He took the time to talk with people, and pray for them each day by name.  If fans of his show wrote informing him they (or their children) were in hospital, Rogers would visit them with his show puppets to cheer them up.   He took photographs of those he had made connections with to remind himself and his wife, Joanne, to keep them in prayer.  And his motto was ‘Be kind.  Be kind.  Be kind’.

Rogers was certainly an exceptional individual in today’s cynic
